Chapter 33 - The Unopened Telegram

The private garden overlooking the cliff edge was adorned with thousands of white gardenias and orchids. The waves below whispered a gentle, rhythmic song as the soft Mediterranean breeze fluttered the silk ribbons tied to the wooden chairs.
Daniel stood at the end of the stone aisle beneath an arch of white roses.
When I stepped out onto the path holding Leo in my arms, Daniel’s breath audibly caught. He wore a tailored midnight-blue tuxedo, his posture tall and commanding, but his eyes were filled with such profound, unadulterated adoration that my eyes stung with tears.
As I walked toward him, the string quartet began playing a soft, sweeping melody. Every step felt like a victory march over the wreckage of my former life. I wasn't the discarded woman anymore. I was queen of my own destiny.
I reached the altar. Daniel reached out, his warm, strong hand gently enveloping mine. He looked down at Leo, brushing a stray lock of brown hair from the baby's forehead, and Leo let out an adorable squeal, reaching for Daniel's satin lapel.
"You took my breath away," Daniel whispered, his voice trembling with emotion.
"I love you, Julian Daniel Vance," I answered softly, using the name that embraced all of his truth.
The elderly French priest smiled warmly, raising his leather-bound Bible. "Friends, we are gathered here in the light of the morning sun to unite this man and this woman in holy matrimony—"
Suddenly, the roar of a high-speed motorcycle tore through the tranquility of the cliffside path.
The string quartet stopped playing.
The guests turned in surprise.
A courier from the International Courier Service of Monaco skidded to a halt at the garden gate. The courier ripped off his helmet, breathing heavily, and held up a bright red, wax-sealed diplomatic dispatch marked with the urgent crest of the Swiss Federal High Court.
"Emergency delivery for Madame Clara Vance!" the courier shouted, his voice echoing frantically across the garden. "Immediate protocol order from the Court of Zurich!"
Daniel immediately stepped in front of me and Leo, his protective instincts flaring. "What is the meaning of this? The perimeter was cleared!"
Sarah rushed to the gate, intercepted the courier, and signed the digital tablet before ripping open the outer envelope. She pulled out a single sheet of telegram paper and a small, antique silver key.
As Sarah read the telegram, her face went deathly pale—paler than it had been on the night of Marcus's confession.
"Sarah?" I called out, my heart suddenly seizing with a cold premonition. "What is it?"
Sarah walked back toward the altar, her legs shaking so violently she could barely hold herself upright. She handed the telegram to me with trembling fingers.
My eyes scanned the single, frantic message wired directly from the High Court’s sealed vault:
*“URGENT DISPATCH: Post-trial forensic DNA analysis of the Zurich 1999 arson site completed under new genetic sequencing. The remains identified as Arthur Vance do not match the paternal lineage. Arthur Vance did not die in the fire. He was seen entering Monaco thirty minutes ago.”*
My breath stopped.

I looked down at the telegram, then looked up at Daniel.
At that exact second, from the bottom of the long, winding private driveway leading up to the estate, the heavy iron security gates swung open—and a lone, black vintage Rolls-Royce slowly began driving up the hill toward the altar.
