Chapter 32 - The Sunrise Over the Sea

Three days later, the storm was gone.

The morning sun rose over the French Riviera, painting the Mediterranean in breathtaking shades of rose gold, turquoise, and lavender. The air smelled of wild jasmine, pine needles, and sea salt.

Inside the master suite of the clifftop villa, the atmosphere was hushed, peaceful, and filled with light.

I stood before the full-length antique mirror, adjusting the lace sleeves of my wedding gown. It was a masterpiece of ivory silk and vintage lace—elegant, dignified, and regal. There were no foreign ambassadors today. No media vultures. No corporate board members angling for power.

Today, there were only true friends.

"You look stunning, Clara," Sarah said softly, dabbing away a happy tear as she adjusted my veil. "Charles would be crying his eyes out right now."

I looked at my reflection. The hollow, haunted look that had plagued my face for the past year was entirely gone. In its place was a woman who had walked through hell, fought every demon thrown her way, and emerged victorious.

In the corner of the room, ten-month-old Leo was giggling on a plush rug, wearing a tiny black bow tie and matching suspenders. He clapped his chubby little hands, pointing at the seagulls soaring past the open balcony.

A gentle knock sounded at the door.

Inspector Girard stepped inside, wearing a crisp formal suit rather than his usual tactical gear. He carried a leather briefcase under his arm.

"Madame Vance," Girard said with a respectful bow. "Pardon the intrusion on your wedding morning. But I felt you deserved to hear this directly from me."

"Is it Marcus?" I asked, turning to face him.

"Marcus Sterling has broken completely under federal interrogation," Girard announced with a satisfied smile. "He has formally signed a complete confession implicating all remaining shadow partners across Europe. The Vance family trusts have been completely cleared of all foreign liens. And Julian Vance’s appeal has been officially dismissed—he will serve his life sentence in solitary confinement."

A weight that had pressed against my chest for years dissolved into nothing.

"Thank you, Inspector," I said genuinely. "For everything."

"It was an honor, Madame. Now, go marry your husband. He has been pacing the garden altar for forty-five minutes, driving the priest insane with nervous energy."

Sarah and I burst into laughter.

I picked up Leo, holding his warm, chubby body against my hip, his sweet baby scent grounding me in pure joy.

"Come on, my little prince," I whispered, kissing Leo’s soft cheek. "Let's go meet your father."
