Chapter 19 - The Whispering Ghost

By four o’clock in the morning, the interceptor docked at a secret maritime facility—an armored shipping barge anchored three miles off the shores of Milwaukee, completely off the radar of federal surveillance.

Inside the barge’s secure communications center, Arthur lay resting in a medical bay after having the bullet removed from his shoulder. Evelyn plugged the silver pendant into a portable decryption terminal, finalizing the triple-handshake biometric link with her DNA.

Suddenly, a file partition unlocked that had never appeared before.

A video file appeared on the monitor screen, titled: *FOR_EVELYN_IF_I_FALL.mp4*.

Evelyn gasped, pressing her hand over her mouth. "David..."

Dominic stepped to her side, resting a reassuring hand on her shoulder as she double-clicked the file.

The grainy video lit up to show David Carter, sitting in a dimly lit motel room months before his murder. He looked exhausted, with dark circles under his eyes, but his gaze was sharp and determined.

"Evelyn," David spoke from beyond the grave, his voice sending shivers down her spine. "If you are watching this, it means Gregory Sterling found me. And it means I failed to make it home to you and Lily."

Tears streamed freely down Evelyn’s cheeks, but she didn't look away.

"I need you to listen to me carefully," David continued. "Vanguard isn't just about laundering trillions for rogue politicians. Sterling has weaponized the Department of Defense’s domestic surveillance grid to blackmail forty-two members of Congress, six Supreme Court justices, and the heads of the intelligence community. He is orchestrating a silent coup from within Washington."

David took a deep breath, looking directly into the camera lens.

"I hid the master decryption key in three places, and I knew you would need someone capable of shielding you from a beast with infinite resources. That’s why I redirected the Vanguard funds into Dominic Moretti’s offshore system before they caught me. Dominic is ruthless, but he possesses an old-world honor that Sterling could never understand. If Dominic is watching this: trust my sister. And Evelyn... trust Dominic."

The screen paused on David's final words, leaving behind a folder containing direct audio recordings, digital signatures, and covert transaction logs implicating Senator Gregory Sterling in treason, assassination orders, and high-level conspiracy.

Dominic exhaled slowly, his eyes blazing with righteous vengeance. "Your brother didn't just give us a shield, Evelyn. He gave us a nuclear bomb."
