Chapter 57 - The Echo of Elena

*"I don't have much time left,"* Elena’s recorded voice continued, steady despite the shallow rise and fall of her chest. *"My lungs have lost seventy percent of their capacity. The Caduceus poison is irreversible in my mature tissues because the cellular fibrosis has calcified. But Veta’s cells are young. Her tissue regenerates at the mitochondrial level."*

Elena stepped closer to the camera, pointing to a schematic on the digital whiteboard behind her.

*"The cure is not a pill, and it is not a traditional vaccine. It is an acoustic-nebulized peptide vector—labeled Formulation Phoenix. It uses a specific resonant frequency to break down the synthetic binding agent, allowing the body’s natural macrophages to consume and eliminate the poison entirely. Once administered, the recipient is completely immune for life."*

Elena looked directly into the camera lens, her eyes locking onto David across twelve years of separation.

*"David, you already built the delivery system. The custom ventilator you designed for our baby girl—I left the blueprints for its resonance chamber in your old university notes before I disappeared. You thought you invented it from scratch, but your genius was simply finishing what my heart started. However, you need the catalytic enzyme. There is only one place in Europe that holds the raw cultures: the automated biocrypt in Sterling’s private vault beneath the Geneva Science Complex."*

Elena took a deep, trembling breath, her smile radiating pure warmth.

*"Do not weep for me, David. My life ended so that hers could begin. Take down Sterling. Free the world from their synthetic chokehold. And tell our daughter that every breath she takes is my victory over them. I love you both. To the end of time."*

The recording faded to black.

The silence in the bunker was deafening. Veta sat on the floor, weeping silently, but her posture had changed. The fragile, frightened teenager who had watched her family mock her illness on the internet was gone. In her place stood a young woman forged in fire, her jaw set with her mother’s unyielding resolve.

Veta stood up, wiped the tears from her cheeks, and looked at David. "Dad. Let's go get our cure."
