Chapter 8 - Turning the Tide

Marco cleared his throat, wiping his own damp eyes before returning to business. "Boss... that file is the silver bullet. It proves Miller is running a rogue operation. But we have to get this data out before Miller calls in an air strike or breaches the perimeter doors."

Dante released us, his expression transforming once more into the cold, calculated commander. "We don't just send it to Internal Affairs. We broadcast it."

"Broadcast it?" Marco echoed.

"Miller is outside with twenty tactical officers and news vans already circling the perimeter down on 5th Avenue," Dante explained, rising to his feet. "He wants to frame this as a legitimate federal raid on a mafia kingpin holding a child hostage. We flip the script. Marco, hook the drive into the national press syndicate feeds. Every major news outlet, every federal oversight committee, the Attorney General's personal desk. Stream Julianna's confession live."

"That will trigger an immediate federal intervention," I realized, my eyes widening with awe at Dante’s brilliance. "Miller won't be able to fire another shot without committing treason on national television!"

"Precisely," Dante said, a grim smirk playing on his lips. "Let’s see how bold Agent Miller is when the eyes of the entire nation are watching him."

Marco’s fingers flew across the keyboard. "Upload commencing in five... four... three... two... Upload complete! It’s live on every major news network across the country."

Within seconds, the bunker’s television monitors flickered to life. Breaking news banners flashed in bold crimson across CNN, MSNBC, and Fox:

**BREAKING NEWS: EXPLOSIVE FBI CORRUPTION EXPOSED IN LIVE LEAK. TASK FORCE CHIEF ACCUSED OF TREASON AND CARTEL COLLUSION.**

Julianna’s video confession played out in crystal-clear definition across millions of screens worldwide. Simultaneously, the surveillance feeds outside the penthouse showed the sudden chaos descending upon Miller’s forces.

Down on 5th Avenue, federal marshals suddenly lowered their weapons, staring at their phones and tablet screens in horror. Cell phones among the tactical officers began ringing furiously—orders coming straight from the Director of the FBI in Washington to stand down immediately.

Through the exterior camera, we saw Agent Miller standing by the hood of his SUV. His face drained of all color as several of his own men pointed their firearms directly at his chest, disarming him on the spot.

"It worked," Marco breathed, slumping against the console in disbelief. "Dear God, it worked!"

Dante looked at the screens, but there was no gloating in his eyes, only a profound sense of quiet victory. He turned toward me, extending his hand.

I took it, stepping close to him. "It's over?"

"The war for Sophia’s freedom is over," Dante murmured, his voice thick with emotion as he drew me into his chest, holding me against his beating heart. "Miller is done. Salvatore is dead. Sophia is safe."

Sophia cheered softly, wrapping her arms around Dante’s leg. "Does that mean we can have breakfast now, Daddy? Elena makes the best pancakes!"

Dante laughed—a rich, deep, joyful sound that echoed through the bunker—and scooped Sophia up into his left arm while keeping his right arm locked possessively around my waist. "Pancakes it is, *principessa*."
