Chapter 12 - A Vow Under the Stars

One month later.
The penthouse terrace in Manhattan had been completely restored, transformed into a blooming rooftop garden overlooking the glowing heart of New York City. The scandal that had once threatened to destroy Vale Aeronautics had instead propelled it to unprecedented heights. With the conspirators exposed and neutralized, the company had signed a historic ten-year defense pact with the United States government, and its stock reached an all-time peak.
Victoria Davenport, stripped of her family fortune and social standing, had been exiled to obscurity, facing civil lawsuits for defamation and insider fraud that would keep her in financial ruin for decades.
My father was now living in a private sunlit suite at Adrian’s estate in Westchester, making steady progress in his neurological rehabilitation, smiling and laughing again.
Tonight, there were no cameras, no board members, and no bodyguards hovering in the shadows. There was only Adrian and me.
Adrian stood at the edge of the glass railing, dressed in an open-collared navy shirt and dark trousers. He held no cane. His posture was effortless, completely free of pain, his strength fully restored through sheer discipline and will.
I walked onto the terrace, carrying two glasses of vintage champagne. I wore a simple emerald-green silk dress that swayed gently in the evening breeze.
"You're not limping at all," I said with a smile, handing him a glass.
Adrian smiled back, taking the flute and setting it down on the small marble table beside him. He took my glass as well, placing it next to his, and took both of my hands into his warm grip.
"Dr. Kincaid’s successor cleared me yesterday," Adrian said softly. "One hundred percent neural conductivity. No restrictions."
"A modern miracle," I whispered, gazing up into his striking blue eyes.
"Not a miracle, Elena," he said, stepping closer. "A purpose. A man heals when he has something worth standing up for."
Under the glittering canopy of stars, Adrian slowly reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box.
My breath caught in my throat. My heart leaped into my chest.
He didn't hesitate. He dropped gracefully onto one knee before me.
"Elena Vance," Adrian said, looking up at me with eyes full of unwavering devotion. "When the world wanted to watch me crawl, you made me feel like an emperor. You defended my honor when I couldn't defend myself, and you showed me that true loyalty is the rarest treasure on this earth. I don't want an empire without you to share it with."
He clicked the velvet box open, revealing a magnificent, flawless ten-carat sapphire surrounded by a halo of brilliant-cut diamonds.
"Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"
Tears of pure happiness spilled over my lashes. "Yes," I choked out, a radiant laugh escaping my lips. "Yes, Adrian! A thousand times, yes!"

Adrian rose to his feet with breathtaking power, sweeping me into his arms and spinning me around beneath the starlit sky as our laughter echoed into the warm Manhattan night. He slid the ring onto my finger, and as he captured my lips in a passionate, breathless kiss, I truly believed that our nightmare was finally over, and our fairy tale had begun.
