Chapter 11 - The Confession

Within an hour, federal authorities and state police surrounded the Kincaid Institute, taking custody of the remaining conspirators and securing the premises. My father was safely transported aboard Adrian's private medical helicopter back to a state-of-the-art, secure facility in Manhattan, completely untainted by the syndicate's reach.

Sitting in the back of an armored command vehicle parked outside the Adirondack compound, Adrian and I watched as Dr. Kincaid was loaded into a federal interrogation van.

Marcus stepped into the vehicle, holding an encrypted satchel. "Boss, the FBI just raided Arthur Sterling's compound near Bangor, Maine. But he wasn't there."

Adrian’s jaw tightened. "Did he flee the country?"

"No," Marcus replied grimly. "Arthur Sterling’s private Gulfstream was intercepted on the runway by federal marshals. He was found dead in the cabin. A cyanide capsule. He chose death over facing trial."

I let out a long, heavy breath, leaning back against the leather seat. "So the serpent is dead. The conspiracy ends here."

"The immediate threat is dismantled," Adrian said, though his eyes carried the cautious wisdom of a man who had stared into the abyss. "Arthur Sterling had the government contracts, Julian had the corporate leverage, and Victoria’s father supplied the logistical cover. Their entire web has been torn apart."

He turned to Marcus. "Release the full evidentiary dossier to the press. I want the truth about the crash, the falsified medical records, and the corporate sabotage published in every newspaper from Tokyo to London. Let the world know that Vale Aeronautics did not fall to negligence—it survived an act of war."

"Right away, Mr. Vale," Marcus nodded, stepping out of the vehicle and closing the door behind him to give us privacy.

The interior of the command vehicle fell silent, save for the patter of rain against the armored glass.

I looked at Adrian. His tuxedo jacket was torn, his knuckles were bruised, and exhaustion lined his handsome face, yet he had never looked more magnificent.

"Your father called from the transport," Adrian said softly, reaching over to take my hand. "The doctors confirmed his vitals are stable. He told me to tell you that he has never been prouder of his daughter."

A tear slipped down my cheek, but this time, it was born entirely of relief. "Adrian... you risked everything tonight. You walked into gunfire for my father. Why?"

Adrian reached up, his calloused thumb gently wiping the tear from my cheek. His gaze was burning with an emotion so raw, so tender, it took my breath away.

"Because before you walked into my life, Elena, I was existing in a tomb," he said, his voice vibrating with deep sincerity. "I had billions of dollars, but I had no reason to fight. I let people mock me because I believed I was already dead inside. You gave me back my dignity. You gave me back my strength. And tonight, I realized something."

"What?" I whispered, my heart fluttering wildly.

"I don't just want you as my chief of staff, Elena," Adrian said, leaning closer until his lips hovered mere inches from mine. "I want you by my side for the rest of my life."

May you like

He closed the distance, pressing his lips to mine in a kiss that was fierce, possessive, and filled with a passion that had been building since the night of the gala. I melted into his embrace, wrapping my arms around his neck, letting every doubt and fear dissolve into the warmth of his promises.
