Chapter 2 - COLD EVICTION
Gwen scrambled up from the floor with the agility of a teenager, completely forgetting her alleged heart palpitations. Her silk pants were dusted with white carpet lint, her expensive blowout askew.
"Christian! Do something!" Gwen hissed, clutching her son’s arm. "You can't let the police come in here! What will the neighbors say? The Montgomerys are right across the street! If Sally Montgomery sees squad cars outside my home, I’ll never be able to show my face at the country club again!"
"It's not your home, Gwen," Sienna said calmly, walking over to the marble entrance foyer. She picked up her designer purse and slipped her keys into her pocket. "It never was. It was an act of charity that I mistook for familial respect."
Two Phoenix Police cruisers pulled into the circular driveway, their red and blue strobe lights flashing violently against the pristine white stucco walls of the mansion.
Christian rushed toward Sienna, his face contorted in a mixture of panic and desperate intimidation. "Cancel it, Sienna! Tell them it was a misunderstanding! If you make a police report against my mother, this marriage is over! Do you hear me? Over!"
Sienna looked at him with profound pity. "Christian, the moment your hand wrapped around my wrist to defend the woman who drew my blood, this marriage wasn't just over. It was incinerated."
She opened the double mahogany front doors before Christian could stop her.
Two armed officers walked up the steps, their hands resting cautiously near their utility belts. The lead officer, a tall, no-nonsense veteran with graying temples, took one look at Sienna’s split, bleeding lip and the red bruising already blossoming around her left wrist.
"Ma'am? Did you place the domestic call?" Officer Martinez asked, his voice hardening as he assessed the scene.
"Officer! It's a mistake!" Christian blurted, stepping forward with his hands raised in an exaggerated show of innocence. "My wife had a hysterical episode. She tripped over the rug and hit her mouth on the coffee table. My mother was trying to help her—"
"Quiet, sir," Martinez snapped, his partner stepping between Christian and Sienna. Martinez turned back to Sienna. "Ma'am?"
Without a word, Sienna unlocked her phone, opened the audio file, and pressed play.
The officers listened in stone-faced silence to Gwen’s screaming threats, the brutal sound of the strike, and Christian’s subsequent entry and violent demands for an apology. As the audio finished, Sienna held up her wrist, showing the distinct pattern of Christian’s four fingers and thumb imprinted in bruised purple flesh.
"I am the sole legal owner of this property," Sienna said clearly. "I wish to file assault charges against Gwen Mercer, and I wish to file a formal complaint for battery and physical intimidation against Christian Mercer. Furthermore, I am requesting that both individuals be removed from my premises immediately under legal trespass protocols."
Gwen let out a shriek of indignation. "You can't arrest me! I am a lady! Christian, tell them who we are!"
"Who you are," Officer Martinez said dryly, unclipping a pair of handcuffs from his belt, "is someone under arrest for domestic assault. Turn around and put your hands behind your back, ma'am."
"No! Get your hands off me! Christian!" Gwen shrieked as Martinez clicked the cold steel around her manicured wrists. She twisted violently, kicking her designer Italian pumps across the hardwood floor. "Sienna, you wicked, sterile witch! You’ll burn in hell for this!"
Christian lunged forward to intervene, but the second officer shoved him firmly against the wall, pinning his chest against the sheetrock. "Interfere with an arrest, sir, and you’re riding in the second car in cuffs. Back off!"
Christian’s face was beet-red, tears of humiliation and rage spilling into his eyes. He glared at Sienna over the officer’s shoulder. "You're dead to me, Sienna! You hear me? You'll crawl back to me on your knees when you realize nobody else will ever want you!"
Sienna didn't answer. She walked to the front door, pulled it wide open, and watched as Gwen was escorted down the stone steps in full view of three neighboring families who had gathered at the edge of their manicured lawns, recording the spectacle on their smartphones.
Mrs. Montgomery was indeed watching, wine glass in hand, her eyes wide with shock.
Sienna turned back to Christian. "You have twenty minutes to pack one suitcase of your personal clothes. The police will observe you. At the expiration of twenty minutes, a locksmith will arrive to re-key every lock on this property. Anything left behind will be inventoried and donated to Goodwill."
"This is half mine!" Christian screamed. "We are married!"
"Phoenix is a community property state, Christian," Sienna replied with chilling precision. "Except when an ironclad prenuptial agreement specifically stipulates that all pre-marital real estate, executive compensation packages, and secondary business entities remain solely the separate property of the earning spouse. Did you really think I didn't read the contract your mother tried so hard to dismantle before our wedding?"

Christian’s face went dead white.
