Chapter 10 - MARCH 14TH (HAPPY EVER AFTER)

The historical stone chapel in Beacon Hill was bathed in warm afternoon sunlight.
It was March 14th—the exact day of Emily’s thirty-fifth birthday.
Inside, the chapel was filled with soft candlelight and overflowing with white hydrangeas and English ivy. Sitting in the front rows were Rachel, Daniel Brooks (who had successfully reunited with his ex-girlfriend Samantha and was now a close friend), members of Cole Meridian’s renewed board, and close loved ones.
In the dressing room, Emily stood in front of a full-length mirror.
She wore an exquisite, custom ivory silk gown with an off-the-shoulder neckline, a delicate lace train, and a simple pearl veil. She looked radiant, powerful, and breathlessly beautiful.
Rachel walked up behind her, tears welling in her eyes as she adjusted Emily’s veil.
"You're late for your deadline by... let's see, exactly zero days," Rachel wiped a tear, laughing softly. "Thirty-five today."
Emily looked at her reflection in the mirror.
She remembered the thirty-four-year-old girl standing barefoot in her kitchen, eating cake straight from the cardboard box, terrified of missing the arbitrarily imposed milestones of her life.
She smiled softly at that memory. The list wasn't what had saved her. Embracing the uncertainty, trusting her heart, and opening herself up to unexpected love was what had brought her here.
"I’m not chasing a deadline anymore, Rachel," Emily said softly, turning to her best friend. "I’m just living."
The organ began to play the opening notes of the bridal processional.
The heavy oak doors of the chapel swung open.
Emily walked down the aisle, her arm resting gracefully on the arm of her proud uncle.
At the altar stood Alexander.
He wore a tailored black tuxedo, looking impossibly handsome. As he watched Emily walk toward him, tears gathered in his slate-blue eyes—a billionaire titan completely undone by the beauty of the woman walking toward him.
When Emily reached the altar, Alex took her hand, his grip warm, strong, and steady.
"You take my breath away," he whispered softly.
"You're not so bad yourself, Mr. Vance," Emily whispered back, her eyes shining.
The priest began the ceremony: "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today in the sight of God and these witnesses to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony..."
They exchanged their vows—not corporate contracts or rigid schedules, but promises of unwavering partnership, mutual respect, and endless love through every storm life might throw their way.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest declared with a warm smile. "Alexander, you may kiss your bride."
Alex didn't hesitate. He pulled Emily close, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate, and joyful kiss.
The chapel erupted into thunderous applause and cheers.
Hand in hand, Alexander and Emily Vance walked out of the chapel into the bright, crisp Boston sunlight. A waiting vintage convertible was parked at the curb, decorated with white roses.
As they climbed into the backseat, Alex pulled Emily close to his side, resting his chin on her head.
"Happy thirty-fifth birthday, my love," Alex whispered softly into her ear.
Emily looked down at her hand, where her wedding band sparkled alongside her engagement ring, then looked up into the eyes of the man who had given her everything she had ever dreamed of—and so much more.

"Best birthday present ever," Emily smiled.
And as the car drove off down the cobblestone streets of Beacon Hill toward their future together, Emily knew with absolute certainty that this wasn't the end of a deadline—it was simply the beautiful, unwritten beginning of forever.
