Chapter 20 - The Boss’s Vow

Dawn broke over the city with uncharacteristic, golden warmth, washing away the shadows of the long night.

At El Puente Bar, the velvet curtains had been pulled open wide, letting the morning sunlight flood the polished floorboards. Tomas was behind the bar humming softly, pouring fresh orange juice.

In the center of the room sat the newly carved mahogany table—strong, unbreakable, and polished to a mirror shine.

Virgilio and Clara sat together at the table.

Virgilio wore a clean black dress shirt, his sleeves rolled up, revealing his ink. But his posture was relaxed, the heavy, constant vigilance that had weighed upon his shoulders for seven years finally lifted.

Beside him, Isabella and Diego sat laughing softly, sharing stories of Clara's childhood and Isabella’s days at the clinic. The family that had been fractured by violence and debt was now whole, seated together under the warm morning sun.

Virgilio turned to Clara. He reached beneath the table and pulled out a small velvet jeweler’s box.

Diego and Isabella fell silent, watching with wide, hopeful eyes.

Clara’s breath caught in her throat. "Virgilio..."

Virgilio opened the box.

Inside rested a magnificent ring—a flawless sapphire surrounded by brilliant diamonds, glowing with the deep midnight-blue of the dress she had worn on the night they took their stand against the wolves.

"A month ago," Virgilio spoke, his deep voice rich with emotion, "five cowards threw you onto a broken table in this very spot. They thought you were weak because you were gentle. They thought you were helpless because you were alone."

He took her trembling hand into his, his scarred fingers fitting perfectly against hers.

"You showed me that true strength isn't built on fear or violence," he whispered. "It is built on courage, loyalty, and love. You gave me back my sister. You gave me back my soul."

Virgilio looked directly into her dark, luminous eyes.

"Clara Reyes, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife? Will you rule this city by my side?"

Clara looked at her father, who was wiping away a joyful tear. She looked at Isabella, who gave her an encouraging, radiant nod.

Then, she looked into the scarred, beautiful face of the man who had fought armies, defied cartels, and rewritten his own destiny just to keep her safe.

"Yes," she whispered, a tear of pure happiness escaping down her cheek. "A thousand times, yes."

Virgilio slipped the ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly.

As he pulled her into his arms, kissing her beneath the golden light of the new morning, the entire bar erupted into cheers.

Outside, the city hummed with life, peace, and prosperity. The runaway waitress had found her sanctuary, the mafia boss had found his redemption, and together, they were ready to write the next chapter of their unyielding reign.
