Chapter 35 - The Sister’s Gambit

The nursery became our war room. For the next three hours, under the humming amber light of the emergency lanterns, the Mercer triplets sat together for the first time in thirty-two years.
Sophia laid out the architectural blueprints of the Saint-Germain Grand Pavilion—an impenetrable fortress-mansion built on an isolated island off the coast, where the world's most secretive financial dynasties gathered once every decade.
"Castlereagh operates under absolute authority," Sophia explained, tracing a slender finger over the security routing maps. "He controls the Trust's physical master seal—the Sovereign Falcon. Without it, he cannot legally execute the asset forfeiture or strip your parental rights under maritime trust law."
"Where is the seal kept?" Marcus asked, leaning over the table, examining the guard rotations.
"Around his neck, inside a biometric titanium capsule," Sophia replied bitterly. "It only opens with two things: his retinal scan, and the physical blood signature of a direct Mercer heir."
Lauren looked between Sophia and me. A slow, dangerous smile began to form on her lips. "He needs a Mercer heir's blood to open it. But he only expects *one* Mercer heir to be in that room."
"He doesn't know Lauren and I survived the Dubois trials with our wits intact," I added, my pulse quickening as the audacity of the plan took root. "Castlereagh thinks Sophia has us cornered. He thinks we're weeping in our nursery, waiting for his lawyers to come collect our children."
"The charter requires three witnesses from the founding bloodline to invoke an Emergency Sovereign Audit," Sophia said, her eyes widening slightly as she realized what we were proposing. "If all three of us appear inside the Grand Council chamber at the exact same moment..."
"His legal mandate shatters," Lauren finished. "Under the 1794 Charter, three identical heirs override a single chancellor’s authority. The Trust defaults back to the family."
"It's suicide," Sophia breathed, though her gray eyes were suddenly blazing with a fire that matched our own. "Castlereagh has fifty elite operatives patrolling the gala floor. The island has only one bridge and two helipads. If we fail, none of us leave that island alive."
I reached out across the table and placed my hand over Sophia's scarred wrist.

She flinched slightly—unused to the warmth of family touch—but she did not pull away.
"We spent our entire lives being hunted by monsters who thought they owned our bodies and our babies," I told her, squeezing her hand until she met my gaze. "Vivienne Dubois thought she could harvest us. Castlereagh thought he could turn you into an executioner. On Friday night, we show them that you don't hunt a Mercer sister... unless you're ready to drown in the blood you tried to steal."
