Chapter 1 - The Sovereign Shift

I stood in the private terminal lounge, holding my phone as the jet's engines hummed on the tarmac outside.

Through the panoramic window, I watched the Prescott Technologies luxury jet prepare for taxiing. Aaron truly believed he was flying to Silicon Valley to sign a pivotal $3 billion deal with foreign investors. He thought I was driving home in tears, defeated and discarded, replaced by a twenty-four-year-old secretary who fed him fruit.

My phone rang. It was Daniel, the CFO.

"Alyssa," Daniel’s voice trembled slightly over the encrypted line. "Are you somewhere private?"

"I’m in the VIP hangar suite," I replied, my tone icy and steady. "Tell me what’s happening, Daniel."

"Jasmine isn't just an executive secretary, Alyssa," Daniel confessed, taking a sharp breath. "Aaron signed an undisclosed equity-transfer agreement with her two weeks ago. He’s transferring ten percent of Prescott Tech’s core patent royalties into an offshore shell company registered in her name. He’s trying to dilute your family’s fifty-one percent controlling interest before the merger announcement next month."

A cold, bitter laughter bubbled up in my chest.

For four years, I had concealed my identity as the sole heiress of the Vance Global Conglomerate. I had lived in a modest townhouse when we first married, funded his research out of my personal trust, and silently assigned thirteen of my own military-grade software patents to his startup under a holding company named Aegis Holdings.

He thought he was the technology prodigy. He thought he built Prescott Technologies.

"Daniel," I said softly. "Who owns the lease on the corporate headquarters in Manhattan?"

"Aegis Holdings. That’s your trust."

"And who owns the server infrastructure hosting their entire cloud network?"

"Aegis Holdings."

"Then Aaron Prescott doesn't own a single circuit board in that company," I said. "He owns an empty brand name and an inflated ego."

"What do you want me to do, Alyssa?" Daniel asked, his loyalty shifting completely. He knew who signed his real paycheck.

"Call the pilot of the jet right now," I commanded. "Tell him to execute Protocol Zero."

Five minutes later, out on the runway, the jet’s engines suddenly roared down and died. The cabin lights flickered, and ground crews rushed forward to wheel the boarding stairs back into position.

Through the window, I saw Aaron burst out onto the top of the stairs, screaming at the tarmac manager, waving his phone furiously. Jasmine and his mother followed him, looking pale and confused.

I pulled on my sunglasses, walked out of the VIP glass doors, and stepped toward the staircase, flanked by four suit-clad security guards from Vance Global.

Aaron saw me approaching. His expression shifted from confusion to outrage.

"Alyssa?!" he yelled down from the top of the stairs. "Did you cause this delay?! What did you say to the airfield staff?! You are completely out of line!"

May you like

I didn't answer until I reached the bottom step. I looked up at him, my expression devoid of any warmth or history.

"Get off my plane, Aaron."
