Chapter 9 - The Vows at Lake Como

The sun was setting over Lake Como, casting a golden-rose glow across the deep blue waters and the mountains of northern Italy.

The private villa was decorated with thousands of white gardenias and flickering candlelight. Only fifty of their closest associates, trusted friends, and high-level allies were in attendance, sitting along an aisle made of antique stone steps leading down to the water’s edge.

Violins played a soft, classical melody as the heavy wooden doors of the villa opened.

Marco stood at the altar beside Cassian, who served as his best man. Marco looked impossibly handsome in a bespoke dark navy tux, his posture rigid with anticipation, his dark eyes locked onto the entrance.

Then, Donatella appeared.

A collective gasp swept through the guests.

Donatella wore an exquisite custom Italian lace gown that framed her full figure with stunning royalty. The off-the-shoulder neckline highlighted her collarbone, while the tailored bodice and flowing train accentuated her waist and hips with breathtaking confidence. She wore a long cathedral veil that caught the gentle lake breeze.

She walked down the stone aisle alone, her head held high, her eyes fixed entirely on Marco.

She didn't need anyone to give her away. She belonged to herself—and she was choosing to share her life with the man standing at the end of the aisle.

When she reached him, Marco extended his hand. His fingers trembled slightly as he took hers, helping her step up onto the altar platform.

“You are a vision,” Marco whispered, his voice thick with raw emotion.

Donatella smiled, tears of joy glistening in her eyes.

The officiant, an elderly Italian judge who was an old family friend of the Lombardi estate, began the ceremony in rich, melodic Italian.

When it came time for the vows, Marco turned to Donatella, taking both of her hands in his.

“Donatella,” Marco said, his baritone voice echoing softly across the lake. “I lived for forty years believing that power was something you build with iron, fear, and silence. Then you walked into my conference room, spoke the truth without fear, and showed me what real strength looks like.”

He squeezed her hands gently.

“I promise to stand beside you as your equal, your shield, and your partner. I will honor your mind, protect your heart, and spend the rest of my life making sure you never feel small again. My empire is yours. My life is yours.”

Donatella wiped a single tear from her cheek, smiling through her happiness.

“Marco,” Donatella said, her voice clear and strong. “I spent years trying to earn a place at tables where I was never truly respected. I thought love was something you had to shrink yourself to keep.”

She looked deep into his dark eyes.

“You saw me when I was invisible. You gave me space to stand tall, to fight, and to conquer. I promise to love you fiercely, to stand with you against any storm, and to build an empire with you that no one can ever tear down. You are my home, Marco.”

“By the power vested in me,” the judge announced with a warm smile, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. Don Marco, you may kiss your bride.”

May you like

Marco didn't hesitate. He pulled Donatella into his arms, lifting her off her feet as he brought his mouth down on hers in a deep, passionate, sweeping kiss that made the guests erupt into cheering and applause.

The fireworks detonated over the lake, painting the night sky in brilliant shades of gold, emerald, and silver.
