Chapter 10 - The Empire of Love

One year later.

The morning sun filtered brightly through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the primary suite at the Lombardi estate in Detroit.

Donatella sat at her vanity table, wearing a dark silk robe. She was looking at a set of financial growth charts for Lombardi Tech, which had just officially surpassed two billion dollars in valuation.

She smiled, adjusting a gold bracelet on her wrist.

From behind her, two strong arms wrapped gently around her waist. Marco pulled her back against his broad chest, resting his chin on her shoulder, kissing her cheek softly.

“Working on a Sunday morning, Mrs. Lombardi?” Marco murmured softly, his hand resting affectionately over her stomach.

Donatella leaned back against him, feeling the deep, familiar comfort of his warmth.

“I’m just reviewing the acquisition offer for Shaw Logistics’ former European routes,” Donatella said, turning her head to kiss his jaw. “We’re underbidding by five percent.”

“Let them negotiate,” Marco smiled, his hand gently stroking her abdomen. “My CFO always gets the best price.”

Donatella placed her hand over his.

Over the past year, their partnership had transformed Detroit. Lombardi Enterprises had become a beacon of economic growth, clean corporate governance, and community reinvestment.

Arthur Shaw was serving a fifteen-year sentence for arson and fraud. Cordelia Shaw had moved out of the state, living quietly under bankruptcy protection. And Leo Rossi remained behind bars, entirely forgotten by the corporate world he had tried so desperately to conquer.

Donatella had built a life beyond her wilder dreams. She wasn't just surviving at thirty-five—she was thriving as the co-head of a global empire, deeply loved, immensely respected, and entirely secure in her own skin.

“Marco,” Donatella said quietly, turning around in his lap to look into his eyes.

“Yes, my love?”

Donatella took his hand and placed it firmly against her stomach, a radiant, emotional smile breaking across her face.

“I think we’re going to need to build a nursery in the west wing.”

Marco froze. His dark eyes went wide—a rare look of complete shock overtaking the fearless mafia king.

He looked down at her hand on his chest, then back at her glowing eyes.

“Are you...?” Marco stammered, his voice choked with sudden, overwhelming emotion.

“Three months,” Donatella whispered, smiling tears streaming down her cheeks. “The math is undisputed.”

Marco let out a deep, triumphant laugh. He gathered her into his arms, holding her tightly against his heart, spinning her around the sunlit bedroom as if she were the lightest, most precious thing in the world.

He set her down gently on the plush velvet lounge, kneeling in front of her, resting his forehead against her stomach, pressing a sweet, reverent kiss through her silk robe.

“Thank you, Donatella,” Marco whispered, raising his eyes to hers, filled with tears of pure joy and devotion. “Thank you for choosing me.”

Donatella ran her fingers through his dark hair, looking out the grand windows at the shining city below them.

She had survived the betrayal, survived the cruelty, and survived the doubts. She had walked through the fire, stopped shrinking, and claimed her crown.
