Chapter 6 - THE BROTHER WHO WASN'T DEAD

Benjamin was alive.

He had been living under another identity.

And he had been collecting evidence against his family for years.

When he arrived at Hale Global, I immediately noticed something.

He looked nothing like Ethan.

Quiet.

Reserved.

Almost gentle.

He sat across from us.

"I didn't know Ethan was hurting you."

"I believe you."

He nodded.

"My grandfather threatened me when I tried to expose him."

"Why didn't you go to the police?"

He looked down.

"Because he had evidence that could destroy my mother."

I understood.

Family secrets had become weapons.

Benjamin opened a folder.

Inside were decades of financial documents.

"Arthur built Blackwood Holdings using stolen technology."

My father looked at him.

"From whom?"

Benjamin hesitated.

"Your mother."

I stared.

"My mother?"

Benjamin nodded.

"She developed a financial security system that became the foundation of Hale Global's international network."

My father went still.

"That's impossible."

Benjamin showed him a patent.

My mother's name was on it.

The patent had been transferred decades earlier.

Illegally.

Arthur had stolen it.

My mother had spent years trying to recover it.

That's why Arthur feared her.

That's why he feared me.

Because the intellectual property rights were still legally connected to my family's trust.

Daniel stared at the documents.

"If this is authentic, Blackwood Holdings owes Hale Global billions."

Benjamin nodded.

"And there is more."

He handed me another file.

Ethan's name was on it.

But not as an heir.

As a beneficiary of a secret insurance policy.

If Ethan died under suspicious circumstances, Vivian would receive control.

I felt sick.

"They planned to kill him?"

Benjamin shook his head.

"Not necessarily."

Then he pointed to another line.

"Read the beneficiary."

I did.

My name.

I looked at him.

"Why would I receive it?"

"Because Arthur wanted to make your death look like an accident after childbirth."

Silence.

My father stood immediately.

"No."

Benjamin continued.

"They intended to create a situation where you were isolated, medically sedated, and unable to defend yourself."

My hand instinctively moved to my belly.

My father took my hand.

"That will never happen."

Benjamin nodded.

"That's why I came."

He gave Daniel everything.

The case became enormous.

Federal investigators became involved.

The Blackwood empire collapsed within weeks.

But Ethan surprised everyone.

He surrendered control of his company.

He turned over every account.

And he testified against his own family.

Months later, the court delivered its first verdict.

Vivian was convicted.

Marcus Cole was convicted.

Arthur Blackwood was charged internationally.

Ethan received a reduced sentence for financial crimes because of his cooperation, but he still faced consequences.

He lost everything.

His mansion.

His company.

His reputation.

His fortune.

But he did something no one expected.

He never asked me to take him back.

Instead, he signed away every claim to my trust and agreed to supervised visitation once our son was born.

For the first time...

May you like

He accepted that my child belonged to me too.

And then, one snowy morning, my labor began.
