665 THE HOUSE WAS NEVER HIS / Chapter 8 / 10

Chapter 8 - THE COURTROOM REVERSAL

The courthouse was packed.

News cameras waited outside.

Reporters had already labeled me a greedy heiress who had manipulated her husband's family.

Arthur walked into court like a king.

He was older than I expected.

Silver hair.

Perfect suit.

Cold eyes.

He looked at me and smiled.

“You should have accepted my offer.”

“What offer?”

“To leave quietly.”

I smiled.

“You've known me too long.”

The judge entered.

The case began.

Arthur's lawyer argued that I had manipulated Harrison Holdings into bankruptcy so I could seize control.

They showed documents.

Bank statements.

Contracts.

Emails.

Everything looked convincing.

For almost an hour, I said nothing.

Then Daniel stood.

“We have evidence.”

He submitted the original trust.

Then the second.

Then the ledgers.

Then the recordings.

Arthur's face changed.

His attorney whispered to him.

Arthur shook his head.

“No.”

Daniel played the recording.

Richard's voice filled the courtroom.

Then my grandfather's.

Then Arthur's.

The courtroom went silent.

Arthur stood.

“This is fabricated.”

Thomas stepped forward.

“We authenticated the recordings.”

Arthur pointed at me.

“She manipulated everything!”

Daniel smiled.

“No.”

He held up a final document.

“Your Honor, this is the original financial transfer.”

The six million dollars I had invested.

The money Arthur claimed I stole.

It had actually been transferred into the company legally.

Then diverted by Arthur through shell companies.

Daniel showed the bank records.

The money trail ended in an offshore account controlled by Arthur.

The judge looked at Arthur.

“Do you have an explanation?”

Arthur said nothing.

Then Caleb stood.

“I do.”

Everyone turned.

He walked to the witness stand.

Arthur stared at him.

“You wouldn't.”

Caleb looked at his father.

“I already did.”

He testified.

He explained the marriage plan.

The threats.

The manipulation.

The money.

Everything.

His testimony lasted two hours.

At the end, Arthur was shaking.

“You ungrateful boy.”

Caleb looked at him.

“You taught me that family means protecting family.”

Arthur smiled coldly.

“You failed.”

Caleb shook his head.

“No.”

He looked at me.

“I finally protected the right person.”

I felt tears in my eyes.

The judge ruled in my favor.

The trust remained mine.

Harrison Holdings was placed under independent administration pending criminal proceedings.

Arthur was arrested.

Richard was arrested.

Evelyn was charged with financial crimes but cooperated fully with prosecutors.

Brooke's involvement was also uncovered.

She had been laundering money through fake charity accounts.

She was charged as well.

The courthouse erupted.

Reporters surrounded me.

“Mrs. Harrison!”

“Did you marry Caleb for money?”

“Are you divorcing him?”

“Do you blame his family?”

I stopped.

Then answered:

“I didn't marry him for money.”

I looked at Caleb.

“But I did marry the wrong man.”

The cameras flashed.

Then I walked away.

Outside the courthouse, Caleb caught up with me.

“Can I talk to you?”

I turned.

“What do you want?”

“Five minutes.”

I nodded.

We stood beside the courthouse steps.

“I don't expect forgiveness,” he said.

“Good.”

“I don't expect you to come back.”

“Good.”

“I just want you to know that everything I testified to was true.”

“I know.”

He looked down.

“I loved you.”

I was silent.

“And I still do.”

I finally looked at him.

“Love isn't enough.”

“I know.”

“You should have told me.”

“I was afraid.”

“So was I.”

He nodded.

“I'll spend the rest of my life regretting it.”

Then he walked away.

I watched him go.

For the first time, I felt free.

But I wasn't finished.

Because one person had escaped.

Arthur's lawyer had disappeared before the arrest.

And he had taken something with him.
