Chapter 9 - The Wrath of Damian Vescari

The sky above Willowcrest erupted in blinding light.
A black military helicopter hovered directly above the estate gardens, its massive searchlight cutting through the swirling blizzard like the eye of an angry god.
Ropes dropped from the cabin, and heavily armed men descended into the courtyard like vengeful specters.
Leading them was Damian.
He was dressed in black tactical armor, an automatic shotgun in his hands, his face twisted into an expression of murderous, terrifying fury. He didn't look like a businessman, or a mafia boss—he looked like the angel of death come to claim his due.
"Clear the grounds! Kill every last one of them!" Damian’s roar cut through the roar of the helicopter blades.
The surviving Moretti mercenaries, trapped between the mansion and the gardens, panicked. Gunfire tore through the blizzard as Damian’s elite strike team executed the intruders with clinical, merciless efficiency.
Damian charged through the hedge maze like an unstoppable force, blasting through two armed men who attempted to ambush him, never once breaking his stride.
"EMMA!" His voice was a raw, agonized scream that echoed across the estate. "EMMA!"
"Damian..." I managed to call out, my voice weak, my vision swimming as blood soaked my torn coat sleeve.
The underbrush parted, and Damian fell to his knees in the red-stained snow beside me.
He dropped his weapon instantly, his hands trembling violently as he pulled me into his arms, gathering me against his armored chest.
"Emma... God, Emma, look at me," he begged, his voice breaking completely. Tears carved tracks through the grime and gunsmoke on his face. "Hold on, please, stay with me..."
"Luca is safe," I whispered, clutching his tactical vest with my uninjured hand. "He’s in the vault... behind the Caesar bust... he's safe, Damian."
Damian stopped breathing. He stared down at me, realizing what I had done—that I had drawn the killers away from his son, offering my own life as bait to buy his boy time.
"You saved him again," Damian whispered, his voice trembling with an emotion so overwhelming it shattered whatever darkness lived inside him. "You beautiful, impossible woman... you saved my son."
"Did you... did you stop them?" I asked, my eyelids growing heavy.
"Vincent Rossi is dead," Damian vowed, pressing desperate, burning kisses to my forehead, my cheeks, my lips. "Giancarlo Moretti was captured twenty minutes ago. His entire syndicate has been erased from this earth. It's over, Emma. No one will ever threaten you again. I swear it on my soul."
Marco ran up, clutching a wounded shoulder, breathing heavily. "Boss! The house is secure! The boy is safe in the vault!"
Damian lifted me into his arms, standing tall in the falling snow, holding me against his heart as the helicopter searchlights washed us in brilliant white radiance.

"Get the medical team to the master suite," Damian commanded, his voice shaking with absolute reverence. "And alert the city. Emma Carter is the queen of this house. And anyone who fails to honor her will answer to my grave."
