Chapter 14 - The Zurich Revelation

The crackle of the fireplace was the only sound cutting through the suffocating silence of the Aspen estate. The satellite phone in Marcus’s hand felt like a live grenade, humming with encrypted data transmitted directly from the Union Bank of Switzerland. Arthur Vance stood paralyzed, the color draining from his weathered face until he looked like a statue carved from alpine ice.

"That's impossible," Arthur whispered, his voice cracking against the timber walls. "Rose never kept secrets from me. I raised the capital, I built the empire for her, for you, Elena! I spent fourteen years believing I abandoned my own flesh and blood!"

"Read the rest of the dispatch, Marcus," I demanded, my hands clenching into trembling fists. The phantom sensation of Julian shearing off my hair in front of Vanessa flashed behind my eyelids, but this was a different kind of violence. Julian had stripped my dignity with steel blades; this revelation threatened to sever the very foundation of my identity.

Marcus swiped across the glowing tablet, his jaw set in a grim line. "The document includes an authenticated DNA profile signed by Dr. Emil Laurent, chief geneticist at Clinique Valmont in 1994. The sample comparison between Arthur Vance and Elena Vance shows a zero percent filial probability. But there's a second document attached... a notarized trust deed transferring control of an entity called The Valmont Sovereign Trust directly to you upon Julian Croft’s incarceration."

"Who is the man named on the certificate?" I asked, every breath stinging in my chest.

Marcus looked up, his dark eyes wide with disbelief. "There is no father's name listed on the Swiss registry, Elena. Only a registration seal bearing the insignia of the House of Saint-Germain... and a coded directive instructing you to meet an attorney named Henri Laurent at the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois in Basel within forty-eight hours."

Arthur collapsed heavily onto a leather armchair, burying his face in his hands. "Rose... what did you do? Who did you bring into our lives?"

May you like

I looked at Arthur, the man who had abandoned me to Julian’s cruelty out of cowardice, now reduced to an old man mourning an illusion. "You thought forty million dollars could buy your redemption, Arthur. But you didn't even know the woman you claimed to love. Pack your things. Marcus and I are flying to Switzerland tonight."
