Chapter 10 - The Bright Horizon

Six months later—May 2028.
The morning sun rose brilliantly over the ocean in Bar Harbor, filling the cottage on the bluff with warm amber light.
The birds were singing in the pine trees outside the window, and the gentle hum of the tide echoed up from the shore.
Inside the sunlit master bedroom, Evelyn sat on the window seat, wearing a soft cream robe, sipping a cup of fresh tea.
She looked down at her left hand.
The sapphire ring gleamed under the morning sunlight, resting next to a simple platinum band.
They had been married two weeks earlier in a quiet, private ceremony in the library’s courtyard, surrounded by fifty close friends, local residents, and Margaret Vale.
The bedroom door opened softly.
Nathan walked inside, carrying a plate of fresh blueberry pastries he had bought from the village bakery down the road. He wore simple jeans and a white t-shirt, his hair damp from his morning walk along the beach.
He set the plate on the side table, sat down beside her on the window seat, and pulled her into his arms.
He kissed her lips—a long, sweet, deep morning kiss that filled her whole soul with warmth.
“Good morning, Mrs. Cross,” Nathan murmured against her cheek, smiling as he held her close.
Evelyn rested her head against his chest, listening to the steady, strong beat of his heart—a heart that belonged entirely to her.
She looked out through the glass window at the endless blue horizon of the Atlantic Ocean, at the blooming green pine trees, and at the bright, beautiful world she had built with her own courage.
