Chapter 10 - The Legacy of Light

Two years later.
The summer sun shone brilliantly over the green lawns of a grand estate in Chestnut Hill, just north of the city.
Children’s laughter echoed through the flower-filled gardens.
A small, dark-haired toddler with bright blue eyes was giggling hysterically as she chased a tiny golden retriever puppy across the grass.
"Slow down, Little Rose!" a man’s warm voice called out.
Vincent sat on a carved stone bench near the rose garden, wearing a comfortable linen shirt and trousers. He looked completely relaxed, his sharp features softened by the undeniable peace of fatherhood.
Evelyn walked out from the garden terrace, carrying a tray of cool lemonade. She looked radiant, her dark hair glowing in the afternoon light, wearing a simple white summer dress.
She set the tray on the stone table and sat down beside Vincent, leaning against his shoulder.
"She has your eyes, Vincent," Evelyn smiled, watching their eighteen-month-old daughter, Rose, tumble onto the soft grass with the puppy.
"And she has her mother's untamable spirit," Vincent chuckled, wrapping his arm around Evelyn’s waist, pulling her close to his heart.
Over the past two years, Graham Whitmore had been convicted on multiple federal counts and was currently serving a fifteen-year sentence in a federal penitentiary in Pennsylvania, his political legacy completely erased from the city's history.
The Marchetti family’s legitimate business enterprises had expanded significantly under Evelyn’s architectural direction, building three major community healthcare centers and affordable housing complexes across South Philadelphia.
Sadie, the former server from the Bellweather Hotel, had graduated from college with top honors, backed by a full scholarship from the Evelyn Vance Architectural Foundation, and was now working as a junior project director in Evelyn’s firm.
Vincent looked down at Evelyn’s hand resting against his knee. The Ceylon blue sapphire ring caught the afternoon sunlight, sparkling with brilliant, unbroken light.
"Are you happy, my sweet Evelyn?" Vincent asked softly, pressing his lips against her temple.
Evelyn looked at her daughter playing in the sun, then at her husband’s warm, loving face. She took a deep, peaceful breath, feeling the absolute, unshakeable security of the life they had built together.

"I am home, Vincent," Evelyn whispered, her heart completely whole, her voice ringing with pure, everlasting joy. "I am completely, beautifully home."
Vincent smiled, pulling her tighter against his chest as the golden sunlight embraced their family, illuminating a future built on truth, honor, and a love that no shadow could ever touch again.
