Chapter 10 - The New Foundation (Expanded Version - Happily Ever After)

One year later, the sun streamed through the large, arched windows of my own design studio in downtown Chicago. The walls were painted a warm, inviting sage green, and my desk was piled high with color swatches, architectural drafts, and sketches for a new commercial real-estate project I was consulting on.

My phone buzzed on the desk. I picked it up to see a text message from Rachel: Checking in! Annual check-up is clean. Hope you're painting today.

I smiled and typed back: Healthier than ever. Come by the studio next week; I'm hosting a charity art showcase for domestic abuse survivors, and you're guest of honor.

May you like

I set the phone down and walked over to the window, looking out at the bustling city streets below. Across the glass reflection, I didn't see a frightened woman hiding behind designer bracelets or shrinking away from a shadow. I saw someone who had survived the worst storm imaginable and rebuilt her world from the foundation up.

The scars were still there—etched into my body, woven into my history. But they were no longer chains. They were proof that I was unbreakable, surrounded by love, purpose, and a future entirely my own.
