Chapter 5 - The Unvarnished Truth

By 6:00 PM that evening, the Vance Group official social media accounts published a brief, professional statement:
‘In response to recent fraudulent claims made by Mrs. Eleanor Hayes regarding the events of October 17th, the Vance Group releases the full, unedited audio and video recording from the wedding reception. We let the truth speak for itself.’
The video was posted in 4K resolution with clear, crisp subtitles.
It showed the entire interaction from start to finish:
Eleanor sitting arrogantly, patting the chair, commanding me to submit to her rules.
Her explicit demands: “Starting next month, your salary, bonuses, and regular income go into the family account. I’ll manage it.”
Her property seizure demand: “Houses, land, valuable cars… placed in Julian’s name. The man is the pillar of the family.”
Her mandate on family priority: “If our families’ needs conflicted, his comes first… You need to know which household comes first.”
Julian holding my wrist firmly, commanding me: “Enough. Apologize to my mother.”
And finally, the glorious entrance of Marcus Reynolds greeting my father, revealing the absolute hypocrisy of Julian and Eleanor as their faces turned pale upon realizing my family’s status.
The Internet didn't just turn on Eleanor and Julian—it exploded with unprecedented fury.
Within three hours, Eleanor’s original video was flooded with hundreds of thousands of scathing comments: - ‘OMFG! She literally tried to steal the girl’s paycheck and house on her WEDDING DAY!’ - ‘“I’m not a third person, I’m Julian’s mother!”—THE AUDACITY OF THIS MONSTER!’ - ‘Look at the son holding her wrist telling her to apologize! Absolute MAMA’S BOY SPINLESS WEASEL!’ - ‘She thought Elena was poor so she tried to turn her into a financial slave! Karma hit them like a freight train!’ - ‘#BoycottEleanor #SpinelessJulian is trending #1 worldwide!’
The backlash was swift and ruthless.
Eleanor’s address was leaked online. Protesters and internet streamers began standing outside her Brooklyn apartment building holding signs that read: “HAND OVER YOUR PAYCHECK, ELEANOR!” and “PROPERTY IN THE WIFE’S NAME!”
Her local community club revoked her membership. Her long-time neighbors stopped speaking to her, crossing the street whenever she tried to walk outside.
Julian’s situation was even worse. Former college classmates and ex-coworkers began posting stories about his past behavior, exposing him as an opportunistic climber who took credit for female colleagues’ work. No recruitment firm in New York would take his calls.
That night, Eleanor sat in her living room with the blinds tightly drawn, listening to the crowd outside chanting her name in mockery.
Her phone rang. It was her bank.

“Mrs. Hayes?” the bank manager said coldly. “We are calling to inform you that due to recent public allegations of attempted financial coercion and pending legal inquiries regarding tax documentation from your son’s former employment, your line of credit has been temporarily frozen.”
Eleanor dropped the phone, sinking onto her couch, clutching her chest as her world crumbled around her.
