Chapter 14 - The Geneva Tribunal
The Palais de Justice in Geneva rose like a fortress of gray stone against the backdrop of Lake Geneva and the snow-capped Alps.
Inside Courtroom B, the atmosphere was suffocatingly tense.
Behind a curved mahogany bench sat three Swiss magistrates in dark robes, their faces impassive. Across the aisle, Baron Henri de Laurent sat surrounded by a dozen corporate litigators and private security guards. Henri was an aristocratic man in his late sixties, with a silver goatee, cold hooded eyes, and a posture of supreme, untouchable arrogance.
Beside him, Lucian Durand was already addressing the bench.
"As demonstrated by the absence of the American claimants," Durand announced smoothly, gesturing toward the empty plaintiff's table, "the minor in question lacks both the capacity and the legal standing to assume sole trusteeship of the trans-Atlantic maritime routing patents. We request the bench issue an immediate order executing Article 14, transferring administrative authority to the Saint-Germain Consortium."
The chief magistrate adjusted his spectacles and looked at the clock on the courtroom wall. "The time is nine-fifty-eight. In accordance with maritime probate procedure, if the named beneficiary does not appear by ten o'clock—"
The heavy oak double doors at the rear of the courtroom swung open with a resounding boom.
"The named beneficiary is present, Your Honor," a powerful, commanding voice rang out, cutting through the vaulted chamber like a whip.
Every head in the room snapped around.
Alexander Moretti walked down the center aisle, looking every inch the global titan he was, his dark suit immaculate, his gaze locked onto Henri de Laurent with lethal intensity.
Beside him walked Leo, dressed in a sharp navy suit, carrying a secure biometric ledger case, his chin lifted high with quiet, aristocratic poise.
And beside Leo, I walked, my heels clicking rhythmically against the marble floor, matching my husband and son stride for stride.
Henri de Laurent’s smug smile vanished, his eyes widening in shock as he watched us approach the bar.
"Mr. Chief Magistrate," Alexander said, arriving at the plaintiff's table and placing his hands firmly on the wood. "I am Alexander Moretti, CEO of Moretti Global Maritime. And this is my son, Leo Bennett Moretti, the sole legitimate heir and appointed trustee of the Arthur Moretti Deep-Water Estate."
"Objection!" Durand sprang to his feet, flustered. "The deadline has passed! The documentation presented by the defense is unverified under Swiss cantonal protocol!"
"The deadline is ten o'clock, Monsieur Durand," the chief magistrate replied sharply, glancing at the antique wall clock as it began to chime the hour. "The claimants are seated. Objections are overruled. Mr. Moretti, present your trustee's credentials."
Leo stepped forward to the witness podium. He showed no fear, no hesitation. For a boy who had spent fifteen years living a quiet life in Boston, he possessed an innate nobility that commanded the entire courtroom's respect.
"Your Honors," Leo spoke in fluent, elegant French, causing the magistrates' eyebrows to rise in pleasant surprise. "I have brought the primary cryptographic ledger containing the master algorithms. Baron de Laurent claims the trust requires a conservator because of my minority. However, under Section 9 of my grandfather's founding charter, the trustee's age is irrelevant if the biometric dual-key authentication is executed in open court."
Henri de Laurent leaned forward, his voice dripping with condescension. "A child playing with corporate toys. Arthur was delusional in his final days. The boy doesn't even have the root access key."
Leo placed the sleek black case on the podium, entering a sequence of keystrokes. A holographic interface projected from the console, glowing with a soft blue maritime grid that displayed Arthur Moretti’s original encryption cipher.
"Grandfather wasn't delusional, Baron de Laurent," Leo said calmly. "He knew you would bribe Olivia Hayes to contest my paternity in America. He knew you would try to use foreign probate to steal the transit network. That's why he made sure the second biometric key could only be activated by someone who shared his exact mitochondrial DNA."
Leo looked back at his father. "Dad. If you please."
Alexander stepped up to the podium beside our son. He placed his right palm onto the biometric scanner at the exact moment Leo placed his left hand on the primary pad.
The console hummed. A chime sounded, echoing through the vast courtroom.
*Biometric Match Confirmed: Arthur Moretti Lineage — Direct Succession Validated.*
On the projection, the entire global transit map shifted from locked amber to brilliant green, re-assigning full administrative ownership exclusively to Leo Bennett Moretti under the irrevocable guardianship of Alexander Moretti and Dr. Claire Bennett.
The courtroom erupted into murmurs.
Durand collapsed back into his chair, his face ash-gray.
Henri de Laurent rose from his seat, his fists clenched, his aristocratic composure shattering completely. "This is an outrage! That technology belongs to the European shipping corridor! Arthur stole those algorithms from my family!"
"Arthur built those algorithms with his own hands, Henri," Alexander said, turning to face his father's old rival. Alexander’s voice was dangerously calm, carrying the weight of an unyielding promise. "And now they belong to my son. Furthermore, Julian Vance has spent the last forty-eight hours handing over your offshore financial shell companies to the Swiss Federal Banking Commission. Within the hour, your assets across the European Union will be frozen for corporate espionage and conspiracy to commit fraud."
Two Swiss federal police officers entered the courtroom, stepping directly behind Henri de Laurent.
"Monsieur le Baron," one officer announced formally. "You are requested for immediate questioning regarding illegal offshore surveillance and contract violence tied to the Hayes investigation in Boston."

Henri stared at Alexander, then at Leo, and finally at me. For a moment, the old oligarch looked completely broken. Without a word, he was escorted out of the chamber in handcuffs.
The chief magistrate struck his gavel. "The court recognizes Leo Bennett Moretti as the sole and lawful trustee of the Arthur Moretti Deep-Water Estate. This tribunal is adjourned."
