Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Life

On a golden autumn evening three years after the winning ticket was purchased, the sun set over Lake Michigan, painting the sky in deep shades of gold, amber, and violet.
Abigail sat on the front porch of her restored home in Independencia, wrapped in a comfortable wool sweater, holding a warm cup of chamomile tea.
Beside her sat Naomi, laughing as they watched local neighborhood children playing tag on the crisp green lawn across the street.
The street was peaceful, warm, and filled with the familiar, beautiful sounds of a community that was safe, healthy, and whole.
"Are you happy, Abigail?" Naomi asked softly, looking over at her friend.
Abigail set her tea cup down on the small wooden table. She looked at her sturdy house, at the blooming chrysanthemums in her garden, at her mother's restored sewing machine visible through the warm living room window, and at the bright, clear sky above the city.
She remembered the terrified woman who had stood outside Room 12 four years ago, holding a worn purse, believing her world was ending.
And she looked at the woman she was today—unbroken, powerful, independent, and surrounded by real, unshakeable love.

"I am more than happy, Naomi," Abigail said, a soft, beautiful smile touching her lips, her dark eyes shining with profound, eternal peace. "I am free."
The autumn breeze rustled gently through the trees, carrying the golden leaves across the lawn, as the warm light of the evening sun embraced the home that truth had built—a home that no lie could ever touch again.
