Chapter 7 - The Trap Springs
On Monday morning, the legal net snapped shut.
Caleb and two investigators from the State Attorney General’s Office arrived at Mara and Landon’s rental home with search warrants. What they found exceeded even our expectations: files containing forged documents, lists of falsified credit identities, and evidence of a massive regional mortgage-kiting scheme.
Mara was arrested at an upscale shopping mall while carrying bags of designer clothes purchased on newly opened, fraudulent cards. The footage of her being escorted out in handcuffs made the evening news.
When the officers arrived to take Landon into custody, he fled out the back door into the woods, abandoning the leased Lincoln Navigator.
