Chapter 6 - Patricia’s Public Humiliation

The following morning, Patricia made bail.
Uncle Thomas had refused to post it, so she had been forced to liquidate her personal savings to pay the bail bondsman. When she walked out of the county holding facility, her hair was disheveled, her makeup was smeared, and her heart was black with vengeance.
Patricia didn't go home. She went straight to her laptop at a local diner and opened Facebook.
For the past ten years, Patricia had cultivated an image as the matriarch of an elite, God-fearing, high-achieving family. She belonged to the regional garden club, the charity gala committee, and several prestigious church circles.
At 11:15 a.m., she posted a 1,000-word manifesto:
*“Dear friends and community. My heart is broken. Last night, my son Daniel and I were the victims of a calculated, unprovoked assault by his wife, Claire. She has suffered a psychiatric breakdown, physically attacked me, and threw out our family celebration dinner before calling corrupt police officers to frame me. Daniel is devastated. We ask for your prayers during this dark time as we pursue legal justice against this dangerous, ungrateful woman.”*
Within minutes, comments began flooding in from church members and socialites expressing shock and sympathy.
Patricia smiled, convinced she had won the court of public opinion.
She didn't know that my public relations team at Vanguard had been monitoring her social accounts since dawn.
At 11:45 a.m., under Patricia’s viral post, an official comment appeared from the verified profile of **Claire Holloway, Managing Partner of Holloway-Vanguard Holdings.**
The comment contained no insults. No emotional rants.
It simply contained three attachments.
Attachment 1: The crystal-clear kitchen security footage showing Patricia screaming, stealing fourteen pounds of ribs, and violently slapping me across the face while I stood completely motionless.
Attachment 2: The official forensic audit report detailing Daniel’s $142,000 embezzlement, including copies of forged checks written to Brittany’s boutique.
Attachment 3: A certified copy of the warranty deed showing sole ownership of the residence under the Holloway Family Trust, along with the police incident report charging Patricia with misdemeanor assault.
Below the attachments, I wrote a single sentence:
*“Truth does not require performance. The law will handle the rest.”*
The internet reaction was swift and merciless.
Within three hours, Patricia’s post was shared over 14,000 times. The comments flipped instantly.
*“She slapped her daughter-in-law over meat that she stole? Absolutely vile!”* wrote a prominent member of her garden club.
*“Patricia Miller has been bragging about her son’s money for three years, and he was an embezzler? The hypocrisy is sickening,”* commented the wife of a city councilman.
By 2:00 p.m., the board of the regional charity gala issued a public statement announcing that Patricia Miller had been permanently removed from her position as honorary chair. The church committee requested that she step down from the choir and avoid Sunday services until the criminal assault charges were resolved.
Patricia sat in her cramped, rented townhouse, watching her entire social identity disintegrate on her computer screen. Every time she refreshed the page, another friend blocked her, another invitation was rescinded, and another family member sent a furious message severing ties.

The golden pedestal she had spent a lifetime building had collapsed into dust.
