Chapter 10 - The Queen of the North End

One week later, the winter sun broke through the Boston clouds, casting a golden light over the historic North End.

The Moretti flagship estate was buzzing with life. But this time, it was not the chaotic preparation of an event planner struggling to survive an eighteen-hour shift.

It was the grand coronation of an empire.

The great ballroom of the Belladonna estate had been fully restored. Giant floral arches of white roses, black calla lilies, and silver eucalyptus framed the sweeping marble staircases—designs I had personally curated, not as a hired worker, but as the future mistress of the house.

Every capo, every syndicate boss from New York to Providence, every corrupt official who held a seat in New England sat in the mahogany pews, waiting in complete, respectful silence.

The grand double doors swung open.

I walked down the aisle alone.

I didn't need anyone to give me away. I had walked through fire to reach this altar, and I owned every single step.

My wedding gown was an architectural masterpiece of ivory silk and black lace, with a dramatic train that swept across the marble floor like a shadow. Diamonds caught the light at my throat and ears, but the most dazzling thing I wore was the quiet, absolute confidence in my eyes.

At the end of the aisle stood Adrian.

He wore a bespoke black tuxedo with silver accents, his posture regal, his hands folded in front of him. When his gray eyes locked onto mine, the rest of the world ceased to exist. The ruthless mafia boss who had terrified a city looked at me as if I were his salvation—the one piece of his soul that the darkness had never managed to corrupt.

I reached the altar and placed my hand in his. His fingers were warm, steady, and unshakeable.

Donna Caterina sat in the front row, holding her silver cane, nodding with proud approval. Marco stood behind Adrian as best man, wearing a sharp suit and a satisfied grin.

The officiant, an elderly judge who had served the Moretti family for three decades, cleared his throat, but Adrian raised a single finger, silencing him.

Adrian turned to face me fully, taking both of my hands in his.

“Elena,” he spoke, his deep voice carrying clearly to every corner of the silent hall. “A week ago, you walked into my world by accident. You were an innocent caught in my war. I gave you a ring to use as a shield, and I gave you a lie to keep you breathing.”

A soft, knowing murmur rippled through the gathered syndicate leaders.

“But somewhere between the bullets and the shadows,” Adrian continued, his voice dropping into a tender, passionate cadence that made my eyes sting with happy tears, “you became the only truth I care about. You didn't just survive my darkness; you conquered it. You taught me that power isn't about how many men you can break—it’s about who stands beside you when the world burns.”

He slipped a solid platinum wedding band, encrusted with black diamonds, onto my left ring finger beside the massive engagement stone.

“I give you my empire,” Adrian vowed, his eyes boring into my soul. “I give you my name, my loyalty, and my life. As long as I draw breath, no hand will touch you, no shadow will claim you, and no man will ever make you bow. You are my queen.”

My heart swelled until I felt like I couldn't breathe. I looked down at the ring, then up into the eyes of the man who had stolen my quiet life and replaced it with a kingdom.

I picked up the matching platinum band from the velvet pillow held by Marco.

“Adrian,” I said, my voice steady, ringing with absolute conviction. “I came into your bed looking for five minutes of peace. Instead, I found a partner who gave me a reason to fight. I don't fear your monsters anymore, because I know the heart beating beneath them. I choose your world. I choose your war. And I choose you.”

I slid the ring onto his finger. It fit perfectly over the scarred knuckle of his left hand.

“With this ring,” I whispered, “I claim the king of Boston.”

The judge didn't even need to speak.

Adrian wrapped his arms around my waist, lifting me slightly off my feet, and pulled me into a kiss that sealed our fates together for eternity.

The ballroom erupted.

Applause, cheers, and the thumping of canes against the floor echoed like thunder. The Five Families rose to their feet, bowing their heads in unison to the newly crowned rulers of the North End.

When Adrian finally broke the kiss, his forehead rested against mine, his lips curved into that rare, breathless smile that belonged only to me.

“What do you think, Mrs. Moretti?” he murmured against my lips. “Ready for the next chapter?”

I looked out over the sea of powerful men and women applauding our union—an empire united, our enemies crushed, and a future waiting to be written in gold and iron.

I leaned up, pressing a fierce, triumphant kiss to his jawline.

“Adrian,” I smiled, my fingers tightening in his hand, “we’re just getting started.”
