Chapter 5 - The Trap Snaps Shut
By noon, the internet had exploded.
The hashtag **#BoycottAshcroft** vanished, replaced in an instant by **#JusticeForNina**, **#ArrestBlytheVance**, and **#TheRealBlythe**.
The 4K security footage went viral with astronomical velocity. Within two hours, Rosa’s recording of Blythe openly admitting to extortion and wire fraud had amassed forty million views across TikTok, X, and Instagram.
The morning television shows that had spent breakfast glorifying Blythe’s victimhood were forced to issue humiliating retractions by lunch. Pundits, social commentators, and millions of ordinary working people tore Blythe Vance’s fabricated innocence to shreds.
Every luxury brand that had endorsed Blythe severed ties within hours. French fashion houses, jewelry conglomerates, and cosmetic giants issued emergency press releases terminating their ambassador contracts with her.
Her comment sections were flooded with hundreds of thousands of messages mocking her golden dress, her fake tears, and her sickening entitlement.
Inside the sprawling Vance estate in Lake Forest—an opulent, gated thirty-room French provincial mansion—the atmosphere was apocalyptic.
Richard Vance stood in his expansive, wood-paneled library, furiously smashing a crystal tumbler of scotch against the roaring marble fireplace.
“You stupid, arrogant little brat!” Richard bellowed, his face vein-swollen and purple with rage.
Blythe was curled up on an imported white leather sofa, sobbing hysterically into her hands, her mascara smeared across her pale face. Her phone was chiming continuously, hundreds of notifications per second, alerts of canceled sponsorships, death threats, and public mockery.
“Daddy, do something!” she shrieked. “Call the governor! Call the media owners! They’re ruining my life! People are calling me a monster outside my gates! Make them take the video down!”
“Take it down?” Richard roared, towering over his daughter. “It’s been downloaded by every news agency on the planet! The SEC just froze all eight of our domestic corporate accounts! The Chicago Board of Trade just suspended our trading license! The FBI raided our downtown offices an hour ago!”
“What about Conrad?” Blythe wept, clutching her father’s arm. “Make Conrad issue a statement saying the video was edited! Tell him to take the blame!”
“Conrad is in federal custody, you idiot!” Richard snarled, shoving her hands away. “He wore a wire! He gave them everything! The offshore routing numbers, the blackmail files, the altered audit logs! The feds know about the Cayman transfers! They know about the fourteen million from Ashcroft!”
The heavy mahogany front doors of the mansion suddenly rattled with thunderous, splintering force.
*THUD! THUD! THUD!*
“FEDERAL AGENTS! OPEN THE DOOR! WE HAVE A WARRANT!”
Blythe screamed, scrambling backward off the sofa, her designer silk loungewear snagging on the coffee table.
Richard froze, his eyes widening in sheer, unadulterated terror. He looked toward the rear French doors that led out to the sprawling gardens and the private helipad, but before he could take two steps, the sound of breaking glass echoed through the conservatory.
A dozen armed tactical agents wearing FBI jackets and tactical vests swarmed into the library, assault rifles raised.
“Richard Vance! Hands above your head! Do not move!”
“Wait! Please! I am a respected financier! You can’t do this!” Richard shouted, raising his trembling hands into the air.
Two agents shoved him against the mahogany desk, forcing his arms behind his back. The sharp, metallic click of handcuffs echoed through the room.
“Richard Vance, you are under arrest for federal bank fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit grand larceny, and extortion,” the lead special agent declared in a booming, emotionless voice.
“Daddy! Daddy!” Blythe shrieked from the corner, cowering against the bookshelves.
A female federal agent walked over to Blythe, pulling a pair of handcuffs from her utility belt.
“Blythe Vance,” the agent said coldly.
Blythe’s eyes bulged with horror. “Me? What are you doing? I didn't do anything! I’m an influencer! I’m a victim!”
“You are named as a primary co-conspirator in the grand jury indictment for criminal receipt of stolen funds and extortion,” the agent replied, grabbing Blythe’s slender wrists and snapping the cold steel cuffs tightly around them. “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.”
“Get your dirty hands off me!” Blythe screamed, flailing her legs, kicking against the hardwood floor. “Do you know how much this dress costs? Conrad! Conrad, you coward, I’ll kill you! Daddy, tell them who we are!”
As the agents dragged Richard and a sobbing, screaming Blythe Vance out the front doors of their mansion, a wall of thirty news cameras caught every single agonizing, humiliating second.
